The museum was officially founded and chartered by the State of New York in 1979, with Charles Hurley serving as the first president of museum’s board of trustees. Collections include archives and artifacts. The Sea Cliff Village Museum has amassed a vast collection of documents, photographs, artifacts, tools, and art. Our archive, which is particularly strong in early twentieth century photographs of the village, is a valuable resource regularly used by writers, genealogists and students. This brick building replaced an earlier church, built in 1878 as the Methodist Episcopal Church. Thirteen families who lived in the unincorporated village of Sea Cliff (which was not founded until 1883) formed the Sea Cliff Methodist Episcopal Church in 1874, originally meeting in a chapel on Fourteenth Avenue. The current brick building served as the Methodist Church until 1968, when the church built a new building on Downing Avenue and the village acquired the property.
